Print a soccer formation, with your notes, on one page

Build the shape in your browser, write what you want your players to do, and print it — in colour or black and white, on A4 or Letter.

A tactics app is useless in the changing room ten minutes before kick-off. Phones are in bags, the wifi is bad, and nobody is passing a laptop around. Paper still wins that moment, and it wins the touchline for the same reason: you can hold it, point at it, and write on it.

TacticBoard's print sheet puts the whole thing on one page — the formation, the numbered line-up, a key to the arrows, the shape analysis, your coaching notes, and ruled space to scribble in during the game.

How to print a formation with notes

1

Build the formation

Pick a preset or drag players into the shape you want. Add shirt numbers and names — they appear in the printed line-up, and any player you leave unnamed prints as a blank line to fill in by hand.

2

Write your notes

Use the notes panel beside the pitch: press triggers, set-piece assignments, who marks whom. Whatever you write prints on the same page as the shape it belongs to.

3

Export → Print Sheet

A preview shows the exact page before you spend any paper, including whether your notes fit. Choose full colour, light ink or black and white, and A4 or US Letter.

4

Print it

Press Print. Your browser's own dialog handles the rest — which also means you can save it as a PDF and send it to an assistant coach instead.

What's on the sheet

Colour and black and white, both done properly

Most printed tactics sheets are designed in colour and then look broken in black and white, because colour was carrying all the meaning. Turn a blue team and a red team greyscale and they become two identical grey teams.

So the sheet never uses colour to say anything that shape doesn't also say:

There are three ink settings. Full colour looks like the board on screen. Light ink keeps the colour but prints a pale pitch, which is the sensible default if you print regularly. Black and white uses no colour at all. Because none of the meaning lives in the colour, a full-colour sheet still reads correctly if someone prints it on a mono printer by mistake — which is the single most common way a printed tactics sheet goes wrong.

Free blank printable soccer field

Sometimes you just want paper to draw on. A blank pitch prints without an account and without using your weekly sheet — it is drawn as vectors, so the lines stay crisp however you scale it.

Frequently asked questions

How do I print a soccer formation?

Build the formation on TacticBoard in your browser, add your notes, then open the Export menu and choose Print Sheet. A preview shows the exact page before you spend any paper, and you can print it in colour or black and white on A4 or US Letter.

Is printing a formation free?

Free accounts can print one coach's sheet per week, and the allowance resets every Monday. TacticBoard Pro prints without limit. The blank pitch template is free to print as often as you like, with no account at all.

Can I print a formation in black and white?

Yes, and it is designed for it rather than being a desaturated copy. In black and white your team prints as filled circles and the opposition as hollow ones, and runs, passes and dribbles are distinguished by line style — solid, dashed and wavy — so nothing depends on colour to be readable.

Does the printed sheet include my coaching notes?

Yes. Whatever you write in the notes panel prints beside the pitch, along with the numbered line-up, a key to the arrows and ruled blank lines for writing on during the game. If your notes are too long for one page the preview warns you before you print, so you can shorten them or print anyway.

What paper size does it print on?

A4 or US Letter. The sheet is laid out for both, so switching between them resizes the pitch rather than reflowing the page or spilling onto a second sheet. TacticBoard guesses the right default from your region.

Can I print a blank soccer field to draw on by hand?

Yes. There is a free blank printable soccer field that prints without an account and does not use your weekly sheet. It is drawn as vectors, so the lines stay sharp at any size.

Can I save it as a PDF instead of printing?

Yes. Printing uses your browser's own print dialog, so choosing “Save as PDF” as the destination gives you a PDF of the same sheet.

Do I need to install anything?

No. TacticBoard runs entirely in the browser on desktop, tablet or phone. There is nothing to download and no app store involved.
